30-Day Portrait Challenge Stars!30 Days of Practice, Progress & Artistic Growth
What can happen when a young artist spends just 15–20 minutes practicing every day?
Quite a lot.
This summer, students at Falak Art Studio took on a 30-Day Portrait Challenge designed to strengthen one of the most challenging and rewarding areas of drawing: portraiture.
The results were inspiring.
But the most important part wasn't simply the finished artwork.
It was the 30 days of practice that came before it.
The Challenge: One Day at a Time
For 30 days, students practiced drawing portraits from daily references.
Each portrait gave them another opportunity to observe, experiment, and improve.
The challenge focused on important portrait-drawing skills such as:
Proportions
Facial features
Observation
Shading
Expression
Even 15–20 minutes of focused practice each day can make a remarkable difference over time.
The objective was not to create a perfect portrait every day.
It was to create a habit of practice.
Why Portrait Drawing Is Challenging
A face may appear simple at first.
Two eyes.
A nose.
A mouth.
Hair.
But when you actually try to draw a face, you quickly discover how much observation is involved.
A small change in the placement of an eye can alter the entire expression.
A slight change in proportion can make the face look completely different.
Understanding light and shadow can change the way the face appears.
And capturing expression requires the artist to look beyond simple shapes.
That's why portrait drawing is such a powerful exercise for developing observation skills.
Practice Makes Progress
The challenge demonstrated an important principle:
Improvement comes from consistent practice.
When students draw repeatedly, they begin to notice things they may have missed before.
They become more comfortable with proportions.
They understand shading better.
They become more confident in making decisions.
And they begin recognizing their own mistakes.
That is where real artistic growth happens.
Not in creating one perfect drawing.
But in creating the next drawing a little better than the previous one.
Celebrating Our Two Challenge Stars
After reviewing the completed work, we were delighted to spotlight two students whose dedication, creativity, and progress stood out.
🏆 Sanaa Jain – Age 13
🏆 Vijayadharshini Sona – Age 13
Both students demonstrated wonderful commitment throughout the challenge and created an impressive collection of portraits.
Their work reflected improvements in:
Observation. Proportions. Shading. Confidence.
These are exactly the kinds of skills that develop when students consistently practice and receive guidance along the way.
Celebrating the Effort Behind the Artwork
As a special recognition of their dedication, both winners received a 24-Color Acrylic Paint Set.
Their selected portraits are also being showcased at the studio, in the newsletter, and across Falak Art Studio's platforms.
But the real reward goes beyond the prize.
It is the knowledge that they committed to something for 30 days and saw themselves improve.
That feeling of:
"I couldn't do this before, but now I can."
is one of the most valuable things an art student can experience.

What Parents Can Learn From the Challenge
If your child wants to improve at drawing, you don't necessarily need to start with long practice sessions.
Start small.
Set aside 15–20 minutes.
Choose one subject.
Observe carefully.
Draw.
Don't worry about perfection.
Then do it again tomorrow.
Over time, those small sessions can add up to something meaningful.
The goal is not to pressure children into drawing every day.
The goal is to help them discover that consistent practice can make difficult things feel easier.
From Practice to Confidence
At Falak Art Studio, we believe that artistic growth happens when students receive the right combination of:
Guidance + Practice + Patience + Encouragement
Our curriculum-based programs give students opportunities to develop foundational drawing skills and progressively explore mediums including watercolor, Prisma 2D/3D, acrylic, charcoal, and more.
Challenges like the 30-Day Portrait Challenge add another important element:
motivation to practice.
And when practice becomes consistent, progress becomes visible.
Congratulations, Sanaa & Vijayadharshini!
A huge congratulations to our two 30-Day Portrait Challenge stars!
Your dedication is an inspiration to other young artists.
And to every student who participated:
Be proud of the work you created.
Every sketch taught you something.
Every mistake helped you learn.
Every portrait helped you observe a little more carefully.
And every day of practice brought you one step further.
Observe. Draw. Improve.
Thirty days of practice can lead to remarkable progress.
But the journey doesn't end at 30 days.
Keep creating. Keep exploring. Keep practicing. Keep growing.
Your artistic journey has only just begun. 🎨
