🎨 100 Faces, 100 Stories: An Artist’s Journey of Love, Memory & Mastery

Updated: Jun 2, 2025

Art isn’t just about technique — it’s about connection. For artist, mentor, and founder of Falak Arts Studio, Nisha Shah, the decision to paint 100 portraits in 100 days has evolved into more than just a creative exercise. It has become a journey through memory, emotion, and artistic discipline — a series titled “100 Faces, 100 Stories.”

What Is the Portrait Challenge?

What began with a single personal portrait — of her daughter — soon unfolded into a deeply emotional and creative challenge. Each day, Nisha selects a face. Some are imagined, others are familiar, and many come with unspoken stories. As of now, she has completed 45 portraits and counting, all crafted with a mix of oil paint, charcoal, and mixed media.

This project is not just about capturing likeness — it’s about honoring people, perspectives, and the quiet emotions hidden behind every face.

🔍 What Makes This Challenge Unique?

• Medium Mastery: Oil, charcoal, and mixed media come together across a series that spans age, emotion, and expression.

• Daily Discipline: Painting every day for over 60 days, Nisha reinforces that artistic growth is built through consistency.

• Emotional Connection: Each portrait is treated not as a subject, but as a story — reflecting joy, struggle, nostalgia, and humanity.

Whether it’s the innocent eyes of a child, the wisdom of an elderly face, or the quiet confidence in a glance — these portraits capture the inner world of each figure with remarkable depth.

🎯 Why This Matters to Artists & Students Alike

The 100 Faces challenge is more than a personal milestone. It models key lessons for aspiring artists:

✅ Consistency breeds progress — Not every day feels inspired, but showing up makes the magic happen.

✅ Emotion drives art — The strongest portraits aren’t just accurate — they’re soulful.

✅ Stories live in faces — Art has the power to immortalize memory, perspective, and feeling.

✅ Medium exploration matters — Working across oil, charcoal, and mixed media helps unlock new possibilities.

For young learners at Falak Arts Studio and beyond, this challenge offers a firsthand look at what it means to commit to both craft and purpose.

🖌 Nisha’s Reflection

“Every time I pick up my brush, I meet a new face — some known, some imagined. These faces reflect memories, emotions, and sometimes even healing. I’m growing not just as an artist, but as a person.”
